Product Review Post: 9 AI Tools Impacting Marketing, Content & Commerce Jobs

Dec 23, 2023 by Mike Mallazzo, Contributing Editor, Martech Record

This dispatch has but one job: to highlight innovative startups and product launches from established players that affiliate leaders should know about.

While future editions will focus on more vertical industries at the nexus of the content and commerce ecosystem, we’re coming out of the gates with a more horizontal feature on AI tools that have particularly piqued our curiosity.

Almost a year after OpenAI set the business world on fire, AI is starting to come down from the proverbial peak of expectations in the Gartner Hype Cycle.  But with millions of dollars of dry powder and many of the brightest minds in tech squarely focused on building AI tools, the pace of innovation will increase even as cynicism builds. Amidst the myriad of applications built, here are a few that we think will have a major impact on the Martech Record ecosystem.

Ownit

Let’s come storming out of the gates with a VC-backed company that has pivoted from one-click checkout to trying to existentially upend the affiliate ecosystem. Ownit’s new mission is simple– spinning up a massive scale of content on behalf of brands against longtail search queries, empowering them to win page one. Despite an impressive early roster of brands using the product, there are a litany of headwinds here. Even with a gargantuan scale of content, can lower domain authority websites ever win the SERP? Will Google rain down on AI-generated articles? However, the sheer audacity of a company trying to fully disintermediate commerce publishers from product search should garner a hell of a lot of our attention.

Shopify Sidekick

One of the most abused quips in Silicon Valley is the Arthur Clarke line that “any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.”  But every once in a while, there’s a product launch that evokes that kind of emotion. For me, it was Tobi Lutke’s video debuting Sidekick
